Visited Lantau Island, by cable car to the Big Buddha, Hong Kong
It was Saturday, August 12, 2023, and there were a lot of people.
I took the subway to Tung Chung station. One minute walk from the metro there is a station with booths.
I bought the funicular tickets in advance on the website – and for good reason.
There was a huge queue to buy tickets. The second big queue is for those who bought tickets a little cheaper through the Klook app (When buying online, everyone needs to change the QR code to a paper ticket). And for those who bought on the official website, there is a separate queue (the smallest one).
They gave me a ticket, a Crystal+/standard cabin and a bracelet on my arm Crystal+ single ticket.
Next to the ticket office there are 3 queues for boarding
-for Crystal ticket holders (the fastest queue)
-for Standard ticket holders (also fast)
-for Crystal+ ticket holders (the slowest queue, as there are few fully transparent booths).
Up to 10 people are crammed into a booth, photographed, and then the photos are sold at an over-price.
The ride on the cabin itself is impressive. It’s especially cool if you’ve never ridden a funicular. There are views of Hong Kong Airport, Macau and Zhuhai, skyscrapers on Hengching Island and Zhuhai Island. The Hong Kong-Macau-Chuai highway bridge was visible, which goes under water. The whole trip was worth it just because of these views alone!


There is no point in taking the Crystal + booth, the standard one is quite enough for a review. Below are the photos of the booth Crystal+

About 20 minutes on the way and got out of the booth.
There is a mini tourist village with shops and cafes (the choice is also the most minimal).
The Big Buddha in Hong Kong is one of the 5 largest statues in China. I was in the city of Foshan, there is a statue of the goddess Guanyin and it is 2 times higher than the Buddha in Hong Kong.
An easy climb and you’re at the Buddha. Nothing special.


Then descend and visit a Buddhist monastery.
This is a typical style of Beijing Buddhist temples.
Lots of wood and stone carvings, decorated wood.
Well, that’s it, there’s nothing else to do here. The Wisdom Trail is an uninteresting sight, and the numerous hiking trails are too much. You’ll get tired of queuing for the funicular steeper than any hiking trip. Another 20 minutes and we’re at Tung Chung subway station, going on other business.
Is it worth visiting? I would not recommend it! Only if you’ve never ridden a cable car in your life)
It’s better to spend time in Hong Kong on something else!
