Hong Kong history Books and resources

Hong Kong history Books and resources

Hong Kong history Books and resources
This is a fairly large article. Can you handle it? Let’s go!
Online Photo Library of the University of Hong Kong
https://digitalrepository.lib.hku.hk/
An invaluable treasure trove of historical photographs. There are descriptions for the photos.
Personally, I watched about 3,500 and kept 100 for myself.
archive.org is a website where you can read books and download some. If you can’t download it, you can open the developer tools and download the book page by page, and then combine it into one pdf file.
www.facebook.com/oldhkphoto
At least a couple of years ago, there were a lot of interesting photos. Use the group search!
Amazing books published by FormAsia
They all take plus or minus the same photos (from the Hong Kong university), but how do they do it! These are very beautiful photo albums with descriptions. The perfect gift for anyone!
HONG KONG: The Classic Age
An awesome book with historical photos of Hong Kong. Now, for now, it is not on sale (we must wait).
There is no electronic version either.

.
HONG KONG: Remembered
A sepia photo album. HK$320.00

.
ONCE UPON A TIME HONG KONG
A sepia photo album. HK$640.00

.
OLD HONG KONG
Another photo album from FormAsia. I didn’t find it on sale.

.
Lost HONG KONG
A photo album. HK$168.00
I didn’t find any photos inside.
.
HONG KONG: Past & Present
An amazing book with comparative photos! HK$294.00
I have this book in the 2010 edition.

.
HONG KONG Another city Another Age
Available for HK$231.00
I bought this book in the first edition in 2002, but it is of a pocket type, not as large as shown below. However, all the texts are not stripped down. I plan to buy this book in this edition as well.

.
End of empire. Hongkong: signed, sealed and delivered
I have this book at home. A book about the last days of the English colony.

.
I also plan to buy 4 books from this publisher.
There are adequate prices in the store https://bookazine.com.hk/
They have bookstores at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel and IFC.
Other bookstores in Hong Kong:

Two very similar books on Hong Kong architecture.
They are very similar! Photo albums with facades of Hong Kong buildings.
The first one is Concrete Hong Kong
It was made by a Russian photographer, famous for his book Panelki.
There are extrusion sheets in the book to make 3D models of Hong Kong buildings!

.
Second –
Hong Kong Modern: Architecture of the 1950s-1970s

Since the author of this book was blown away by the book Concrete Hong Kong, he also decided to upgrade with this additional set for sale for HK$250.00

.
5. Two books about the governors of Hong Kong
The first is Excellence. The Governors Of Hong Kong
A very cool book, reading about the governors, you will understand the history of Hong Kong! I have it in electronic format. I didn’t find it on sale.

.
Second – Governing Hong Kong Administrative Officers from the Nineteenth Century to the Handover to China, 1862–1997 Steve Tsang

I also have this book in electronic form. Significantly inferior to the previous one. I don’t like the author Steve Tsang.
6. Old school. Boring historical books, for a C.
Welsh, Frank (1997). A History of Hong Kong.
A monotonous text that puts you into hibernation. The thickness of the book is also serious.

.
A Concise History of Hong Kong John M. Carroll
A monotonous text that puts you into hibernation.

.
Historic Hong Kong : a visitor’s guide by Rodwell, Sally 1991
Here is a great book on the history of Hong Kong, not so boring and watered down with photos. It’s worth reading! I have it in electronic form.

.
7. Tales of Hongkong
A funny book with jokes and notes about Hong Kong.
Very easy to read. It is convenient to read for a minute per hour)
It consists of hundreds of mini notes.

.
8. HongKong Real Estate development
香港地產史1841-2020 (馮邦彥)
A book in Chinese about the history of real estate development in Hong Kong and who influenced it. I have an electronic version of this book. I haven’t started reading it yet, but it’s definitely worth reading!

.
9. Historic Photographs of Hong Kong, Canton & Macao
1998 Catalog Dennis G. Crow
The most interesting book is a photo album with old photos of Hong Kong + Macau.

.
10. Sir Robert Ho Tung Public Figure, Private Man
Definitely a must have book. About one of the most influential people in Hong Kong and Macau.

.
11. Sun Yat-Sen: The Man Who Changed China
Definitely a must have book. About the most revered politician in China.

I mentioned where to buy books or download them for free 2 times in this article.

That’s it!
