Kowloon 九龙 – district in Hong Kong with an area of 67 km2 and 2 million inhabitants
Kowloon is the northern mainland of Hong Kong, washed by the waters of Victoria Bay. It was founded as a separate city and in 1860 came under the control of Great Britain. In 1997, Kowloon, along with the rest of Hong Kong, returned to China. It is now known as a center of commerce, art and entertainment. The shops on Nathan Road and the traditional markets, where almost everything is sold, from flowers and goldfish to clothes and jade products, are popular with shoppers.
Previously, Hong Kong’s Kai Tak Airport was located in Kowloon, but then a new one was built on Lantau Island.
